My inspirationjournal: Volume one

Volume one

on 14 April 2020

Welcome to volume one of my inspiration journal. I wanted this to be on the site as a way of sharing creative resources that have helped and inspired me and my work. Unknown to those close to me, I have always had a desire to blog. Do I think I have anything of value to say, no…but there’s no harm in trying something new, right?

If you’re taking the time out of your day to read this then I thank you. As I write, we are experiencing the harsh reality of the covid-19 pandemic so I hope you and those close to you are safe and well. Even though the current situation is undoubtedly tough, I feel very privileged to be able to sit here in my flat, looking out over an (albeit smaller scale) forest landscape. As you may have guessed from the style of this website, the great outdoors is something I find really inspiring. It also gives me a sense of calm and ‘restores the balance’ so to speak, which is incredibly useful at times like these.

I don’t have any specific creative resources to share on this entry. It was more an introduction to the journal and what plans I have for it going forward. Long term, I want there to be a mix of wider industry-related pieces, personal work-related pieces and general thoughts on anything random that pops into my head (there’s a lot rattling round in there!)

The photo I used for this is by Jimmy Conover on a trip he took with his girlfriend and dog. The dog reminded me of our family pet, Monty, a 6-year-old labrador who belongs to and lives with my parents. Like all family pets, each and every one is the best in the world, and Monty is no exception. At times like these, where we’re all confined to our homes (for very good reasons), it inevitably makes you think of all the things you’d love to do once it’s all over. One thing on the list is to spend more time taking Monty out exploring the beautiful Dorset coastline. It’s an incredible place, especially as we’re nearing the summer months. Fingers crossed these difficult times will be behind us soon.

I plan on writing a couple of times a week, so be sure to check back for new entries.

Best wishes,
Mark
